  The Facebook Fellowship Program is designed to support Ph.D. Students researching areas around Computer Science and Engineering at an accredited university anywhere in the world.

Doctoral students in any year of study can apply. The program specifically targets people from minority groups and individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Candidates selected for the Facebook Fellowship will receive two years of paid tuition and fees, a $42,000 annual stipend covering living and travel costs, and a paid visit to Facebook Headquarters where the annual fellowship summit is held. Winners will also get opportunities to engage Facebook researchers. Note that applications to the program will be evaluated based on the student’s research statement, publication record, and letters of recommendation.

Eligibility

The Facebook Fellowship Program seeks entries from people who meet the following criteria:
  • Be a full-time Ph.D. student at an accredited university in any country
  • Involved in research covering at least one of the disciplines specified for the fellowship
  • Remain a full-time student throughout the fellowship
  • Not be actively funded by Facebook through other programs

Fellowships Available

The Facebook Fellowship is available for Ph.D. students researching the following areas: AI system HW SW Co-design, Applied Statistics, AR/VR Computer Graphics, AR/VR Future Technologies, AR/VR Human-Computer Interaction, AR/VR Human Understanding, AR/VR Perception, Cognition, and Action, AR/VR Photonics and Optics, Audio Presence, and Augmented Reality Audio. Others are Blockchain and Cryptoeconomics, Computational Social Science, Database Systems, Distributed Systems, Economics and Computation, Networking, Privacy and Data Use, Programming Languages, and Security and Privacy.

Application Process

Applicants are required to submit a 500-word research summary that provides information about the area they are researching, why it’s important, and how it could apply to Facebook. They will also be expected to provide the contact details of two references (one of them should be an academic advisor); they will receive a form on which they’ll submit their letters of recommendation.
