‎The fifth edition of the much awaited Walk Against Rape has gotten a nod from the Lagos State Ministry Of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and Nigerian entertainment celebrities. Walk Against Rape Campaign is a special demonstration that brings together Mothers, Fathers, Guardians, Teachers, Youth Advocates, Social Activists, Actors, Actresses, Sports Men, Media Practitioners, Musicians, DJs, Comedians, Youth Organizations, Showbiz Personalities and Students around Lagos State to lend a voice to sexually abused persons particularly women and children. The walk will also show their support to the cause of bringing an end to RAPE in Nigeria, as the number of rape cases is on the increase. According to the Project Coordinator, Esther Ijewere-Kalejaiye, “Our aim is to help in encouraging victims to speak out and reduce the stigmatization attached to the victims of sexual abuse and rape as well as use “Walk Against Rape” as a platform to inform the society about the soaring scourge of sexual abuse especially as it relates to young girls and women in general. Celebrities expected to take part in this year’s walk include Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, Jimmy Jatt, Ali Baba, Owen Gee, Gt the Guitarman, Gbemi Olateru Olabegi (OAP) and Isio Wanogho (Model). Others are; Bolaji Rosiji, Ego Obaro, Praise Fowowe,Jerrilyn Mulbah, Jodie, Bhaira (AMBO 3), Toni Payne, amongst others. Esther Ijewere-Kalejaiye who spoke further said: “We intend achieving a lot more with the campaign this year as we would be having a three months sensitizing workshop, College Acquaintance Rape Education C.A.R.E in partnership with the Lagos State Government and the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) for young people of primary and secondary school age to educate and sensitize them on rape and encourage them to speak up.” Walk Against Rape is organized by Rubies Ink Initiative, and has held since 2010.
