  Consolidated Hallmark Insurance is inviting students of universities and polytechnics across Nigeria to enter its essay competition. Students in their third year and above can submit entries for the annual competition, for a chance to win cash prizes. If you are studying at a tertiary institution in the country and would like to write about insurance (and win money for doing so), you may consider submitting an essay.

The Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Essay Competition has been held since 2011. This year’s edition is titled “Economic Hardship: Effect on Disposable Income and Demand for Insurance”. Students are expected to write an essay of not more than 1,000 words that lays out their thoughts on the title.

Benefits

These are the benefits that winners of the essay competition will enjoy:
  • The first-place winner will get ₦1 million
  • First runner up– ₦750,000
  • Second runner up– ₦500,000
  • The top three finalists will be unveiled at an award ceremony, which will be attended by their parents or guardians and by representatives of their institution of study
  • The event will be covered by print media

Eligibility

Persons who enter the competition must meet these conditions in order for their entries to be considered:
  • The essay should be an original work of the students, and must include references where appropriate
  • The essay must be typed, with double-line spacing
  • Referencing must follow the APA style
  • This competition is open to students in insurance and actuarial science who are currently at the 300 Level or HND1 and above at their tertiary institution

Entry Process

Essays are to be submitted to the Heads of Departments of Insurance departments, who will forward the top 3 submissions in PDF format to Consolidated Hallmark Insurance. The HOD will submit the essays and contact details of the student writers via email to info@chiplc.com and copy awardscommittee@chiplc.com. Hard copies should also be posted to this address:

  • Obanikoro, Lagos.
Applications will remain open until April 11, 2025.
