Nigeria was beaten 1-0 by Tunisia on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at the Stade Roumde Adjia, Garoua. A 47th-minute strike from Youssef Msakni, was enough for the North Africans to see off the three-time African champions. The Super Eagles, prior to Sunday’s defeat had been impressive in the continental showpiece, winning three games out of three to top Group D of the competition and emerge from the group stage as the only country to gain all nine points. A 1-0 win over Egypt in their first group game raised expectations high on the 2013 AFCON winners before beating Sudan 3-1, and Guinea Bissau 2-0 in their last group game.

Reacting to Nigeria’s defeat to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, Musa said via Twitter:
“In life, things wouldn’t always go the way we want them to and that’s something we have to accept however hard it is. We gave our 100% & unfortunately that wasn’t good enough to take us through. We won’t give up, we will do better next time. Thanks for all your support and prayers.’’
It will be recalled that prior to the commencement of the 2021 AFCON, Musa, during a press briefing, revealed it will be his last continental outing with the national team. Source: Complete Sports Featured Image Source: Punch Newspapers
