The high cost of data subscription and its fast depletion rate remains an issue for network subscribers in the country. While there may be no solution to that yet,
data rollover will be coming to all mobile networks in the country, according to a new directive from the NCC (Nigeria Communications Commission).

Starting
June 26th,
all telecom operators must nowbundle a subscriber’s unused or unfinished data from a previous subscription to the next data subscription. Usually, a subscribers’ unfinished or unused data units automatically became useless as soon as it expires, but that’s about to end.
The directive was issued by the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Umar Danbatta, represented by the NCC Head of Information and Reference Unit, Ismail Adedigba at the 95th Consumers Outreach Programme in Dutse, Jigawa State.
Operators that fail to implement the directive at the said date will be fined
₦5 million per subscriber they failed to roll over and
₦500,000 on each day that follows the first default date.
“All these are to ensure that the consumers’ rights, privileges and interests are adequately protected.”
— Adedigba
Data subscribers in the country can finally have some peace of mind when their data is about to expire seeing that the unused units will be added to the next subscription.
While this doesn’t quite satisfy the plea of internet subscribers for cheaper data, it comes in handy for the few who do not exhaust their data before the date of expiry.
