Established in 2011 by the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos, the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI) is a beacon for youth empowerment. Named in honour of Walter Carrington, a former U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria renowned for his advocacy of civil liberties and democracy, CYFI unites Nigerian youth with exceptional vision, skills, and experience. They conceive and execute projects aimed at fostering positive change within Nigerian society, embodying the ideals championed by Walter Carrington.

Benefits

Persons who are selected to be fellows of this program will benefit from it in the following ways:
  • Hands-on experience in implementing impactful projects addressing critical Nigerian issues.
  • Development of teamwork skills, with participants forming teams of 2 to 4 individuals.
  • Charting a path towards a future in social impact and entrepreneurship.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants should meet these criteria:
  • Age between 18 and 30 years by the application deadline.
  • Nigerian citizenship, residing in any of the 36 States.
  • Proficiency in English language (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Non-alumni status of the Carrington Fellowship.
  • Availability to engage in the one-year program, including virtual and physical boot camps.
