Prince Ebeano Supermarket is one of the leading indigenous retail store chains in Nigeria. It is present in multiple locations and offers a range of products that its customers purchase either at its stores or online. The items on sale at Ebeano include groceries, toiletries, food and condiments, toys and baby products, electrical appliances, beauty products, clothing, and footwear.
The supermarket is the result of a collaboration between two relatives and business partners, Sunday Egede and David Ojei. This partnership dates back to 2009 and gives both partners a 50% share of the business. Prior to this, they had been running separate businesses that sold Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG).
The Ebeano chain of supermarkets consists of several outlets, located in the Lekki Phase I, Chevron, Ibeju Lekki, Gbagada, Magodo, and Oniru areas of Lagos. Until recently, this chain also included a supermarket in Abuja; this location was closed in 2021 after a fire incident. Closer to the present time, Ebeano launched a new outlet in Ontario, Canada.
The supermarkets in this chain sell food items such as rice, beans, macaroni, thyme, and tomato puree. There’s more on offer from their ‘Village Market’ segment, which provides stockfish, garri, Cameroun pepper, crayfish, ogbono, egusi, and potatoes. These products which are among the more frequently bought items on Ebeano’s shelves are available in branded and plain packages.
Also on sale are beauty and personal care products: skincare creams, makeup, and soaps of various kinds. Toiletries, such as wipes, cleansing charcoal, toothpaste, mouthwash, hand sanitiser, sanitary pads, and detergents are available as well.
There are products for children too: clothes, socks, footwear, toys, and baby food are on sale, as are children’s books, pens, and markers. Fiction and non-fiction books for an older audience can be bought at the book segment of Ebeano’s stores. Religious books, including Bibles, may be purchased at various locations.
In addition to the items already listed, Enbeano sells electrical appliances for homes. These products range from extension boxes to television sets, standing fans, sound systems, and more. They are sourced from several globally recognized brands, many of which are familiar to buyers.
The products stocked by Ebeano can be picked up at any of its supermarkets, or ordered via its WhatsApp channel, which is linked on its website. Deliveries are shipped to customer locations within and around the districts or cities in which Ebeano is present.
Ebeano has been involved in a number of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. They include the provision of a lab for a secondary school in Delta State, the construction of the Lokogoma-Gudu road in Abuja, and the provision of a 20-bed ward at the Ibeju-Lekki General Hospital in Lagos, and the construction of a school in Agbor, Delta State.
Ebeano runs with a vision to become “the preferred retail chain store in Nigeria and West Africa.” It’s a significant challenge, but one that isn’t impossible for Ebeano to succeed at.
