Nigeria’s sports scene owes its vibrancy to the teams that participate in the various sports and tournaments in the country, and the fans that cheer them on. Among the many things that make the experience of these things colourful is the jerseys worn by the players on the field or courts, and their replicas donned by the fans that support them.

A lot of these wears are produced by a single company, Owu Sportswear. The leading local jersey maker in Nigeria, Owu Sportswear supplies a large number of professional and amateur teams with kits worthy of their status. It’s been doing this for more than a decade. The company is owned by Tunji Brown, who founded it in 2007. The lawyer turned entrepreneur has driven the brand from simple beginnings to a name worth reckoning with in the sportswear industry. Thanks to its pioneer status, Owu Sportswear is trusted by many local sports clubs and national teams as their chief supplier. Owu Sportswear has kitted handball and squash national teams, as well as rugby, table tennis, athletics, volleyball, and basketball teams. They have also kitted several teams in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and the NNL (Nigerian National League). They include Akwa United, Rivers United, Sunshine Stars, Dakkada, Osun United, and Abuja FC. The company also produces tracksuits and training kits for these teams.

Fans can get replica sporting kits of their favourite sports team too. These wears may be ordered from the company and supplied with or without customer specifications. Besides kitting teams for regular sporting engagements, it has also provided jerseys for one-off games featuring celebrities, including past national team footballers and well-known figures from other spheres of life. Owu Sports has a special line for children, the 4G Sportswear. These wears are designed to excite children on the field of play, especially as participants in sporting competitions. Owu also makes wristbands for sports fans, corporate engagements, religious purposes, and social events. Although Owu Sportswear has won the trust of several organizations in the sporting terrain, it has plenty more ground to conquer. Tunji Brown, the company’s CEO, has said that it aims to extend its working relationship to cover more Nigerian teams. Featured Image Source: Owu Sportswear
