The company emerged out of Pfizer Nigeria, the local subsidiary of an international pharmaceutical brand. In 1997, the management of the Nigerian company acquired a majority stake in it, effectively gaining control and establishing a new organization. Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa was Chief Executive at the time; he led the buyout and became recognized as the founder of Neimeth Pharmaceuticals. He was also its chief executive until 2011 when he retired from the role. Neimeth has built on the strong foundation of its predecessor. For more than 40 years, it has manufactured, marketed, and distributed pharmaceutical products in Nigeria. It set up its first factory in Aba. After this facility got damaged in the civil war, it established a new one in Lagos. Some of Neimeth’s products include dermal creams for treating skin and muscle problems; a worm expeller that’s effective against a variety of intestinal worms; an analgesic that relieves body, rheumatic, and period pains; and an anti-malarial drug.

Other medicines available from Neimeth are an anti-stress formulation (made from herbs and multivitamin combinations); an anti-fungal agent; a cough suppressant; and a supplement for managing sickle cell anaemia. The NCP sanitiser and disinfectant spray are also popular products from this brand. Items in the animal treatment category range from antibiotics to vitamin combinations, and a worm expeller for swine and poultry. There’s also a chick formula that fortifies chicks against moving and brooding stress. Besides its manufacturing and product distribution activities, Neimeth is also engaged in several Corporate Social Responsibility projects. They include a kids’ club that educates children about parasitic worms; an educational program that informs the public about the dangers of hypertension and diabetes; and a long-standing collaboration with state governments to improve the reach of their healthcare schemes.
