Many of these projects have been executed on behalf of the government; not a few have been completed for private sector concerns.

Nigeria’s construction industry is large and vibrant, populated by players of various sizes. While a majority of firms in the space are small and medium-sized establishments that tackle assignments of limited scale and scope, a few organizations are big enough to work on large contracts involving clients at the state and national levels. Dantata and Sawoe is firmly in the latter camp. Dantata and Sawoe was founded in 1976 by Abdulkadir Dantata, grandson of the great northern businessman Alhassan Dantata. In the time since it was established, the company has journeyed through varying economic conditions but has remained stable in the face of it all. It has grown substantially over time, and now offers a combination of services that only a small percentage of businesses in its industry are able to render. The civil engineering work that Dantata and Sawoe does include the construction of roads and highways, airstrips, bridges, and flyovers. By its own measurements, it has built several hundred kilometres of roads in diverse locations across the country. It brings its experience in this niche to bear on every new public project that it deals with.

The company also constructs residential and industrial buildings, office blocks, warehouses, and other concrete structures that are used by individuals, families, and businesses. Because it has handled tasks like this for such a long time, it has gained the trust of high-profile clients, many of whom refer other people and organizations to it for projects that they might need it to take care of. Dantata and Sawoe often gets contracted to build public infrastructure, especially those supporting basic utilities and transportation—roads, power stations, drainages, airport runways, and urban housing projects. It has delivered on these for many years and continues to do so, thanks to the skills and expertise of its workforce.

At the last count, there were over 3,000 persons working for Dantata and Sawoe, including more than 100 expatriates.  It also has several hundred mobile trucks and construction equipment, as well as aggregate crushing and asphalt mixing plants that give it control over a good part of every client assignment it undertakes. As a company with a truly national reach, Dantata and Sawoe has offices in Abuja (where it’s headquartered), Kano, and Lagos. It has also worked on projects in every one of the country’s six geopolitical zones. Featured Image Source: Everipedia
