Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor, the reigning Commonwealth double champion, leads the list of 23 athletes released by the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, AFN, to represent the country at the IAAF World Championship in Beijing, China.
Okagbare-Ighoteguonor clinched one silver and one bronze at the last edition in Moscow, Russia two years ago in the 200 metres and long jump but will compete in the 100 metres, 200 metres and the 4×100 metres relay events this time around.
Other invited athletes include Gloria Asumnu, Stephanie Kalu, Deborah Odeyemi, Cecilia Francis and Ngozi Onwumere who will take part in the 4×100 metres event.
Patience Okon George, Regina George, Tosin Adeloye, Margaret Etim, Funke Oladoye and Ruth Ossai are listed for the 400m and 4×400 metres.
Ese Brumeh (long jump), Doreen Amata (high jump), Amaka Ogoegbunam (400 metres Hurdles), Lindsay Weyimi Lindsey (100 metres Hurdles), Chinwe Okoro (Discus) and Uhunoma Naomi Osazuwa (Hepthatlon) completed the list of 18 women.
The five male athletes include: Ogho-Oghene Egwero (100 metres), Peter Tega Odele (200 metres), Tyron Atkins (110 metres hurdles), Miles Ukaoma (400 metres hurdles) and former Commonwealth Games triple jump champion, Tosin Oke.
