On Wednesday, 20th March, Bash Ali announced a possible Guinness Book of World Record fight for the last Saturday of June, 2019.
The IBF Cruiserweight champion will be taking on a yet-to-be-decided contender, in a bid to make history as the oldest boxer to fight to retain a world title.
Ali revealed this in an exclusive interview with Vanguard, stating that he is in top shape to add Nigeria’s name to the world boxing record, and show the world that age is just a number when you’re a resilient fighter like himself.
“I will shock the world. I am still in top shape. Win or lose, my name will still go down in history as the oldest boxer to have climbed into the ring and fought for a world title. It will also be another record as one who has stayed away from active boxing for over twelve years to stage a come back and win a world title.
“…I know the odds are against me but if one bets [a million naira] that Bash Ali would win and I go ahead to win, one will win ten times that amount.”

Ali also stated that he has been given a “clean bill of health” by his medical team and he is physically and mentally fit and ready for the fight.
