  As part of efforts to ensure that prison inmates become useful to themselves, families, and society after serving jail terms, the Plateau Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has announced that at least 42 inmates are currently writing the November/December Senior School Certificate Examination of the National Examination Council.

This information was made public to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), ASC Longdiem Godfrey. Mr Godfrey disclosed that the inmates are partaking in the examination exercise at the NCS adult school located within the prison premises. He went further to note that the move was in a bid to ensure that the mandate of the prison service to see ex-convicts useful is achieved, as well as furthering the initiative of the service to reform, rehabilitate, and reintegrate them back into society.

Further, the prison service boss said the examination consists of different subjects covering the practical and theoretical aspects, and thanked government agencies, non-governmental organizations, religious bodies, and individuals that funded the programme.
