ASUS, the Taiwanese technology company, has launched its ZenFone Max smartphone in Nigeria.
The introduction of the ZenFone Max certainly makes the field of competition for mobile phones in Nigeria just a little bit more crowded, but ASUS obviously hopes that this won’t turn out to be the only outcome. They aim to take the Nigerian mobile phone market by storm and are targeting its increasingly sophisticated consumers with phones possessing interesting specifications.
The ZenFone definitely has some eye-catching features. A high-definition 5.5 inch IPS display covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection against scratching; Ultra-fast laser auto-focus which helps its user to take clear and sharp shots in 0.03 seconds. Its 5000mAh lithium polymer battery is said to guarantee up to 38 days of standby for various smartphone functions (testing it out is, of course, the only real way of verifying this assertion).
Lawrence Lin, Product Manager for ZenFone in Nigeria, also sang the praises of his company’s new offering to the Nigerian market. According to him, the phone “features LTE Category 4 for fast mobile download speeds up to 150 Mbps and is available in two classic colours of pure white and Osmium Black to complement casual dress or business attire.”
Other qualities of this smartphone as reported by its producers include a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution; 38hr talk time, face detection and a Quad core, 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor.
A possible downside to this product is that its battery is non-removable; reviews from users in countries where it was launched earlier in the year have also been mixed, with reports of screens getting scratch marks after surface contact with keys, and OS upgrade-related problems.
Nevertheless, this adds to the array of smartphones Nigerians can choose from- arguably something to be cheerful for.
