Lagos is a city that impresses itself on the senses. Golden sunsets brooding over humble slums, the skyline of the Island lit up by a thousand lights at night, the mad rush to beat traffic, and the dance of the Eyo masquerade on the city’s streets. It’s a mix of the simple and the opulent, the historic and contemporary, stunning and mundane. And the form of this package is changing all the time.

Archiving Lagos is a project that aims to capture the scenes that define Africa’s fastest growing city. It was born out of a need to document representations of today’s version of Lagos, as it changes and becomes more cosmopolitan. Archiving Lagos gives those who are passionate about Lagos the chance to contribute their take on it in pictures, which they can submit for display on the project’s website.

Archiving Lagos also provides a space for conversations about photography that captures the culture, commerce, politics and everyday realities of Lagos. Users of the platform who have registered accounts with it can participate in these discussions, and satisfy their desire for worthwhile engagements about the art and impact of photography.

If you’ve taken a picture that speaks about interesting and unique aspects of Lagos’ sites, lifestyle and culture, you can send it to Archiving Lagos via email (submit[@]archivinglagos.com). Be sure to include details such as the name of the photographer, where in Lagos the picture was taken, when it was taken, a caption, and a short sentence explaining the picture. If the quality is considered good enough, it’ll be uploaded within 24 hours.
