  If you run a social enterprise that works to empower women economically or tackle climate-related concerns, here’s an opportunity you could consider exploring. The Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship is inviting social enterprises focused on these areas to apply for the accelerator program.

The Miller Center is a Silicon Valley-based investment readiness accelerator that is open to qualified candidates from all over the world. Its main aims are enabling social enterprises to secure investment and scale in sustainable ways. The center is a part of the Santa Clara University, located in California, USA. The July Cohort of the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator is currently open to applications. The accelerator’s organizers say that they intend to work with successful candidates to identify gaps and opportunities in their business, and develop a plan to help them achieve their vision for growth.

Benefits

The Miller Center accelerator offers these benefits to social-impact businesses that come under its program:
  • Be supported by and work with two of the accelerator’s 500 executive mentors, a group comprising startup founders, serial entrepreneurs, and senior executives who have backgrounds with Google, Apple, Intel, Cisco, PayPal, and others
  • Learn and gain insights from 180 hours of mentorship that dives deep, covers the bases, and is customized to business needs
  • Create an integrated, credible, and investable plan for scaling

Eligibility

This program is open to persons who meet the following criteria:
  • Must be a senior leader (CEO, Executive Director, Managing Director) at the business
  • Consistent and reliable access to the internet
  • Proficient in Excel

In addition to the above requirements, social enterprises that apply are expected to:
  • Be committed to addressing one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Work on issues related to the economic empowerment of women, climate resilience, or the intersection of these two concerns
  • Have at least $50,000 in annual earned income and not be entirely dependent on grants or donations
  • Have employed at least 3 full-time staff
  • Guarantee at least 3 months of cash runway
