  The TBD in collaboration with the Africa Bitcoin Conference, has launched the TBD Hackathon to foster innovation and technological advancement in payments across the African continent by utilizing the tbDEX open-source protocol.

The TBD Hackathon will be held from July 31 to September 15, 2024, while the finale will run from December 9-11, 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, during the Africa Bitcoin Conference. Unlocking the potential of African developers and entrepreneurs by addressing the challenges in payment systems such as limited access to banking services, high transaction fees, and inefficient cross-border payments, forms the core objective of the program. Selected participants will be tasked to develop a payment application that will leverage tbDEX to connect users to wallet providers and financial institutions that offer competitive exchange rates and fees.

To be eligible for the program:

  • You must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • You must be based in an African country.
  • You must have a valid passport and/or visa to enter Kenya.
  • You must be willing to comply with the rules and regulations set out during the contest and professionally conduct yourself. Failure to follow rules will result in disqualification.
