The Squash Federation of Africa has selected Nigeria to host the 2014 African Squash Championship, the Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF) has said. This is the first time the competition is coming to Nigeria. Nigeria’s hosting of a major continental sporting event will afford it support advantage for the home team towards winning on a continental level, and preparations for the world championship.
The President of the NSF, Femi Ajagbe said, “We are ready to shoulder the responsibility, we will ensure that we put all the necessary things in place to have a successful competition. We won’t wait till 2014 to start preparations. We will put things in motion when we return from Namibia.
”The federation will solicit for support from the government and the private sponsors and we are optimistic that they will come to our aid. Our collective effort will make it a success.”
Ajagbe spoke from Namibia, where the All-Africa Junior Squash competition was held, Nigeria came fifth in the competition. Ajagbe was recently reelected the vice president of the Squash Federation of Africa.
The African Squash Championship would hold in Nigeria, between May 4th and 9th in 2014.
