The 2025 Allianz Climate Risk Research Award is currently accepting applications. Since its inception in 2017, this prestigious award has recognised early-career researchers whose studies explore the relationship between climate change and severe weather phenomena.

The Allianz Climate Risk Research award welcomes applications from PhD students and postdoctoral researchers conducting work in:
- Risk assessment and reduction of climate change-intensified extreme weather events.
- Building resilience through innovative technological approaches.
An expert panel comprising professionals from both industry and academic sectors selects 10 finalists, whose research is featured in a Compendium published on Allianz Re’s official website.
Eligibility Criteria
- Current PhD or postdoctoral students, plus recent PhD graduates (degree completion must be within two years of application date).
- Research must align with the award’s designated focus areas.
Applicants must commit to attending the Munich, Germany, award ceremony if selected as a finalist and agree to present their research in person. Allianz Re provides complete travel funding. Additionally, participants must be willing to engage in promotional activities related to the award, including research interviews. Full details are available in the official Terms & Conditions.

Award Benefits
- The top three finalists from the 10 shortlisted candidates receive an invitation to Munich, Germany, for the award presentation event.
- The grand prize winner receives EUR 7,000.
- The two remaining finalists each receive EUR 3,000.

Your primary submission should include a concise, accessible essay (maximum 800 words) explaining your research concept and key discoveries. Reference examples are available in the 2024 Compendium.
