The West African Research Centre (WARC) provides a travel grant to selected researchers and graduate students in West Africa. The grant supports these scholars’ visits to other institutions and regions on the continent, thus aiding their research work.

This year, the WARC is offering $1,500 to cover costs for research-oriented travel, and $1,500 in stipends to students and researchers affiliated with universities, colleges, or research institutions in West Africa. If you are in any of these categories, you should consider applying for the grant.
The WARC Travel Grant is funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State through a grant from the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

The travel grant enables its recipients to do the following:
- Visit archives or libraries across Africa that may contain material useful for their research work.
- Attend and present papers at academic conferences that take place within Africa.
- Visit research sites in Africa.
- Collaborate with colleagues at other institutions within Africa.
Eligibility
To qualify for consideration, applicants should be graduate students or researchers affiliated with a college, university or research institution in West Africa.

They are expected to submit the following application requirements:
- An abstract of their proposed activity that explains why they intend to undertake it. The abstract should be between 50 and 80 words long.
- A research description that explains why they need to travel (and thus, why they seek the travel grant).
- Their proposed budget for the travel and research.
- Curriculum Vitae detailing their research and teaching experience.
- A photocopy of their passport.
- A recommendation letter.
Applications should be submitted online as PDF documents.
Applicants who want to attend an academic conference should possess an abstract of the paper they will read there, and a letter of acceptance to the conference. If they are visiting another institution, they should provide evidence of an invitation from that institution. And if they are a graduate student, they should have a letter of recommendation from the professor overseeing their research.
