Life is full of pleasant and unpleasant events. There are times when your life gets messed up, stuck and pinned upon unfortunate events. Most often, we feel overwhelmed by failure, death, illness and other negative events that happen to us directly or indirectly through loved ones and friends. These problems can be overwhelming that if we aren’t careful we might make the wrong choice in a bid to escape these events.

Many people who faced negative events have given in to the pressures of suicide and other harmful
habits. In this article, I’m going to highlight seven things to do when your life sucks.
-
Change That Environment That Makes You Sick Of Life
The environment or space where the unfortunate event occurs often has the capacity to remind you of pains, anxiety and fear. Staying in a house where you were sexually assaulted can be traumatic. People who relocate from zones where they were abused, or experience one unfortunate event or the other often heal faster or get along quicker than people who’re still stuck in their environment of unfortunate events. Furthermore, the place you live often reflects your life. Giving your bedroom or apartment a facelift can help you heal faster.
-
Practice Gratitude
Most often, the reason why you feel your life sucks is that you’re always focused on the negative aspect of your life. You feel your life sucks because you think you’re not measuring up to your personal or societal expectations. You use a single event to define your whole life. You fail to see that there are a lot of things worth celebrating and being grateful for. You take for granted what others would consider an opportunity or a luxury. You’ve got a degree, yet over 2 million people in Africa are out of school before the age of 12. You’ve got a home that’s stocked with furniture and food, yet there are millions who’re homeless. Those things you trivialize are worth being grateful for. Having a sense of gratitude gives you hope to see beyond your present circumstances.

Connect With Nature
Most often, feelings of sucking come with the fact that we’re too busy to observe the beauties of life. There are times when you feel overwhelmed by life or you magnify your fatigue as depression even when you shouldn’t. Your work might be demanding and sometimes you get so overworked, thinking that your life is a mess. However, you’ve failed to let off steams in your life due to your busy schedules. When there is no outlet where we steam off, we can have that feeling of being stuck with life. We suck at everything – or get irritated at everything. One of the ways to deal with this is to connect with nature. Taking a vacation to a beach or a wood can give you a newer way to look at life. Nature has a way of healing the body and destressing you. Your garden can be a good place to start.

Practice Breathing Exercise
Trying out breathwork daily can help relieve stress that’s responsible for making you feel you suck. Taking a deep breath for 3-4 seconds, and exhales for 7-8 seconds is a great technique for calming the nerves. Breathing exercise can be therapeutic as it sends air throughout the body, boosting your memory and lungs, which are very vital for your survival.
-
Avoid Or Do Away With Harmful Content
What you consume – material or immaterial – reflects so much on how you view life, which in the long run can make you feel worse or great. Staying physically and mentally healthy determines your mood, emotions and total wellbeing. For instance, consuming drugs and narcotics can have a negative effect on your mental and physical health. Even consuming carbs and fats can cause obesity, breathing difficulty and inactivity which can cause deterioration of both your physical and mental wellbeing. Furthermore, consuming harmful immaterial content like books, movies, musical lyrics, and audio that encourages narcissism and suicidal thoughts can damage your mental and psychological health. Avoid stuffing up yourself with dark works that cause you to see the gloomy side of life. Ensure the tone of the music you listen to is not sad, angry, which makes you see the meaninglessness of life. These materials affect your subconscious and influence your energy.

Explore New Things, People And Place
When you feel you suck at life, staying in isolation is the greatest disservice you can do to yourself. Isolation in a moment of depression is a one-way ticket to something ugly as self-harm and even death. When you feel you suck, explore new things, like learning a new language, learning how to cook a new cuisine, or starting a book project or a blog. Furthermore, meet new friends, join a volunteering club, a social unit, a writer’s club, or best meet up with new people on social media who will value you. Travelling can also be therapeutic. Seeing new people and cultures can create a glimmer of hope in your life. You might not have the money to afford a vacation to the Bahamas, but you can travel within your home country. You can get dressed and tour around your city or state. You can also hang out at a night party with old and new friends.

Seek Spiritual Guidance
Studying hope and faith-inspiring verses in the Holy Bible can be the only thing you need when you feel stuck in life. There are countless stories of how heroes of faith overcame difficulties. Also, listening to tapes and videos, seeking the advice and counselling of your spiritual leader, and praying can have a tremendously positive effect on your life.
