Success is not luck. It’s not magic. It’s a habit. Success responds to patterns and lifestyles we exhibit. Most often we talk about success – building a successful business, having an outstanding grade, weight loss, body fitness and building, and successful spiritual life and so on.

However, only a few of us take credible steps towards making our lives a success. Success doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by habits. Success is either sustained or diminished by habits. In fact, several self-help writers have come to the conclusion that success is determined by the habits we develop. According to scientific studies, it takes 21 days to develop a habit. In this article, we shall explore 7 steps to developing the habit of success.
  1. It All Starts With A Decision

Everything great starts with a decision. Not just a decision, a firm decision. You must be willing to start. No one can do this for you. If you want to be successful, you must be hungry for it. So decide firmly that you’re going to act in a specific way 100 percent of the time. It’s like making a vow. You can start with easy-to-do decisions of rising up early, taking 10 minutes off work each morning, or reading two pages of a book daily. You start small to become big.
  1. No Excuse

The enemy of success is giving excuses. Kill excuse before it kills you. When you make a resolution to always wake up every 5 a.m. see to it. Don’t give an exception to any day. Replace excuse with discipline to see that your resolve is carried out
  1. Be Accountable To Others

When you become accountable to others it will keep you on your toes. When you want to start a new habit of, let’s say, reading for two hours on a stretch daily, inform others. In this way, you’re making yourself accountable to people which will infuse in you a huge element of seriousness and drive. Knowing that you’re being monitored, you wouldn’t want to slack a day.

  1. Envision Yourself Making A Change

This works dynamically – that’s envisioning yourself doing something new. Most often, all our reality begins in our minds. I remember seeing myself consuming huge knowledge of books, it’s only a matter of time that I begin to actually live in the library. When you see yourself rising up early occasionally in the vision of your mind, it’s only a matter of time that it becomes a reality.
  1. Be Affirmative

This is what I call self-encouragement through words and utterances. Saying words repeatedly about your health can change your atmosphere and your word in general. For instance, when you say: ‘I’m improving my mental power to change my world! it has a way of driving you to become what you want.
  1. Choose To Be Persistent

When you’re building a new habit you’re bound to face internal and external challenges, it’s in your power to keep going. When faced with the pains of developing a new habit, ask yourself why you’ve started and where you are going. With this, you can have a compass for your soul.
  1. Reward Yourself

When you carry out a specific habit successfully, rewarding yourself is a way to refuel. Let’s take, for instance, you planned to hit the gym for 21 days without stop, it’s advisable to take a day break and hang out in a nice park. Also, when you have a reward system in place, it motivates you to push on. When you look forward to a reward, you become more driven. In this way, you’re subconsciously developing a success habit.
