The reasons for quitting jobs vary: from seeking self-employment options to exiting a
toxic work environment, to underpayment, to lack of motivation on the part of employees, and so many others.
My focus in this article is on those who hate their jobs, but are still hanging on. Here, I highlight six ways to can transform your job into what you want.
-
Spot The Reasons For Your Job Hate
You can’t hate your job for no obvious reasons. There are various reasons why people hate their jobs and want to quit. These reasons could be, for example, much workload, underpayment, poor working facilities, poor rapport among coworkers, toxic workspace, underutilisation, etc. So it is important that you spot the reason why you hate your job so that you can know how best to address it.
-
Renegotiate Job Description
When experiencing dislike for your job, it’s advisable to talk to your employer about it. Let the conversation be centred around negotiating the job description. This is most especially for those who are experiencing a heavy workload. Your goal is to come up with a solution that will be best suitable for you and your boss. For example, if your job description is both that of an accounting officer and typist, you can ask your employer to relieve you of the typist job.
-
Seek Synergy
Another way to transform your job from what you hate into what you love is by seeking synergy with coworkers with whom you share the same chemistry. For example, you can ask your employer to team you up with co-workers you share some mutual understanding with. You can also ask that competent hands be transferred into a department or team.

Seek Team Or Department Change
Sometimes, most people get bored with routines and monotonous jobs and might want to try something else. If they are stuck in a monotonous job, it might frustrate them and want to force them to quit. If you find yourself in this situation, you can seek a change of department or team. You can ask your boss to move you from jobs that confine you to the desk to the one that makes you go out on fieldwork or meeting clients outside the office.

Create A Work-Life Harmony
Most times, many of us get glued to our computers working round the clock that we rarely make out time for ourselves and our loved ones to rest and refuel. One of the reasons why you hate your job is that you are weighed down with lots of workloads, so many unchecked emails, which often leaves you sick, weak and even depressed. One of the ways is to value and make good use of the rest of the hours after 4 pm closure of time.
After office hours, you can take a drive around your city, sightseeing or visiting a Chinese restaurant where you can have a bottle of wine and some Chinese dishes, or some of your favourite food. Your weekends should be spent exercising, resting and sleeping and partying. Learn to take breaks and separate office hours from family and personal time. Let office discussions be left for office hours and not recreation and relaxation hours.

Talk To A Confidant
Talking to a confidant is a better way to let off the steam inside of you. It’s advisable not to make your boss a confidant in this matter, rather a spouse, a friend, a mentor, or even your parents are the best set of people you can confide in to let off your frustration. Ensure that your confidant is mature, understanding and well acquainted with your pains. Most times, confiding in people you trust could be therapeutic. Conversations like this can be about solutions you can adopt in other to overcome your job hate.
