1. Nigeria Celebrates Armed Forces Remembrance Day Every January 15 is a special day in the history of Nigeria; hence the day is celebrated in honour of the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces comprising Air Force, Army, and Navy. National Defense is an integral part of Nigeria’s nationhood, and as such, the military has been responsible for preventing external attack and internal insurrection in addition to fostering peace in other nations through peace-keeping missions with the ECOMOG. 2. DELSUTH Performs First Kidney Transplant History was made in Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Delta State, Nigeria, when it performed its first ever kidney transplant by a team of surgeons that included the state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan. 3. Fidelity Bank Appoints Nnamdi Okonkwo as New Chief Executive Officer Fidelity Bank Plc, one of Nigeria’s money deposit commercial banks, has appointed Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo as its new chief executive officer and managing director.  Okonkwo replaces Reginald Ihejahi who went on terminal leave on January 1st, 2014. 4. January 15, 1970 – Nigerian Civil War Ends with the Surrender of Biafran Troops On this day in 1970, the Biafran Troops surrendered to the Federal Troops after three years of civil war. General Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria’s military head of state at the time, accepted the surrender of the Biafran officials at a formal meeting. 5. January 15, 1929 – Martin Luther King Jr. is Born On this day in 1929, Martin Luther King Jr., Civil Rights Activist, was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States to a Baptist Minister. King made several accomplishments in his lifetime, including the ratification of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that outlawed racial discrimination in employment and education and racial segregation in public facilities. He was the youngest person ever, in 1964, to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
