You definitely have come across Content Creators at some point. You know them, they have created trends and they have kept you entertained/educated on social media most times. But social media isn’t meant for them alone. And if you’re thinking of joining the bandwagon, there’s space for you. Virtually, everything happens on socials, so it is definitely a great investment. Social media determines a lot today. If you want to climb up the corporate ladder, you could use social media as support for your career. You want to launch a business, launch it on social. You want to build your personal brand, social media has way easier opportunities for you. If you’re a freelancer, come show off your knowledge on social. You see, the possibilities are endless. Even the big corporate brands are getting on social media. You probably don’t want to be known by a lot of people and that’s fine but you can decide to be known by the people you need. You only need to understand where they are and build your tent there too. To create engaging content for social media, there are quite a lot of things to note but here are a few :
  • Why are you creating content?

Understanding your WHY is really important as it’s a base for every other thing to follow. Knowing why you want to put things out will help you know what to put out, how to put them out and who you need to attract. It could be that you want to build an online presence or you want to get more leads to your business, you like to express yourself or you want to have more fun, you probably want to support your career growth too, there’s so much more. It’s fine if you don’t have all that figured out yet but you can’t remain without a plan for too long. Social media is a whole lot, so it’s best you crack it first.
  • Be known for something

It doesn’t have to be just one thing but have a niche(s) that gives you some sort of direction at least. Having fun is a niche, talking about money is a niche, dancing is a niche, food is a niche too. You might just want to share bits of your life and that’s all. In this case, share your personality. Communicate this personality consistently and maintain it. It serves as an avenue to document your life sharing lessons you have learnt, people you have met, places you have been to etc.

  • Leverage storytelling

For instance; I made a post with a copy that says, ‘Never Give up’ and I make another post with a copy that says, ‘The man who gave up 7 times’. Which one of them is most likely to get your attention? Definitely the second. The attention span for social media content is very little. People can detect content they like in split seconds and when they don’t, they scroll past. If you really don’t want your content to get lost in the millions of those on the internet, leverage storytelling to grab their attention. Know what ticks people on and use it as a hook. In your creative process of searching for content ideas, incorporate storytelling that takes your audience on a journey.
  • Collaborate with others

Except you own a business, it’s important to note that other creators are not your competitors because there’s quite a lot out there. Instead of competing for the same audience, how about collaborating in a way that brings each party into the faces of both audiences. Your audience gets to see a different kind of content and you get to show off your content to another type of audience However, you need to understand their kind of audience to see if it matches your type of content and the kind of results you want from the collaboration.
  • Focus on building a community

Your audience could be your number of followers/subscribers/connections, but your community is a group of people that find your content useful and engage with you. Don’t just tell it, show it. Include your community in your decision-making process by asking questions, answer their questions too, interact with them also beyond your platform. It helps you create what they would like to see. Ultimately, the quality of your content depends on your audience, they determine its value. Featured Image Source: Digital Dealer
