Commenting further, Mr Popoola revealed that ongoing construction works on the bridge has gotten to the stage of casting concrete on the additional three expansion joints, making it mandatory for movements capable of causing vibrations on the bridge to cease for the moment. The 72 hours shutdown of the bridge is part of efforts to ensure that the concrete is properly set during the curing process as the Ministry looks towards ensuring a perfect and durable rehabilitation work on the bridge constructed in 1990 and adjudged the longest in Africa until the Oct. 6 Bridge in Cairo, Egypt was completed in 1996.
