The Super Falcons of Nigeria utterly outclassed tournament debutants Burkina Faso in a 6 goal Group B opener on Thursday, at the Stade De Parc Des Sport in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Goals from Uchenna Kanu, Evelyn Nwabuoke (penalty) and Amarachi Okonkwo in the 9th, 16th and 20th minutes respectively, gave Nigeria a well deserved 3-goal lead in the first half.

Into the restart, the Falcons continued their onslaught with another goal from Kanu in the 45th minute.

Dennerby made his first substitution in the 55th minute, with Esther Sunday coming in for Glory Ogbonna.

The Burkina Faso ladies were keen on redeeming themselves against the ruthless Nigeria team, but all their efforts hit the Falcon’s giant defense wall.

The Falcons, on the other hand, wanted a more emphatic win as a means to prove their dominance to the other teams in the competition.

In the 73rd minute, Kanu completed her hat-trick to give Nigeria a 5 goal lead over their West African counterparts.

Six minutes later, Charlotte Milligo scored a consolatory goal for Burkina Faso, as the French team managed to hold off the Falcons from doing any further damage until the stroke of full-time, ending the game 5-1 in favor of Nigeria.

The Falcons will face the Senior Women National Team of Niger Republic in their next group game on Saturday, May 11th.

In their final group game, Nigeria will take on Mali on Tuesday, May 14th.
