Rivers Angels are the 2017 Women’s Aiteo Cup winners after defeating Ibom Angels 3-0 on penalties in the final played at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos on Wednesday. The matchup went on full-time with each team putting in a goal each, ending the game in a tie which led to a decisive penalty shootout. Cynthia Aku scored the first goal of the game and put Rivers Angels in the lead in the 48th minute. Nevertheless, their edge over Ibom Angels was short-lived as Gloria Ogbonna equalized with a goal in the 53rd minute ending the game in a deadlock which was broken in the penalty round with Rivers Angels emerging 3-0 winners. This victory has made Rivers Angels seven times champions of the Aiteo Cup trophy in the women’s division. They have also been awarded the cash prize of 10 million Naira for emerging the 2017 Women’s Aiteo Cup Champions. In the men’s division, Akwa United on Sunday defeated Niger Tornadoes in a decisive penalty shootout to emerge 2017 Aiteo Cup Champions.
