The need for improvement in the number of women with ICT education in Nigeria has been highlighted at the 2014 Iridescent Technovation Challenge held last weekend. Women in Technology in Nigeria (WITIN) announced its partnership with the Ministry of Communications Technology to promote Information and Communications Technology (ICT) education among Nigerian girls by giving them full access to technology.
WITIN noted that the campaign was developed with the aim of reducing the technology gap between girls and boys in Nigeria.
About 50 girls from 13 secondary schools in Lagos and Ogun states participated at the technovation challenge that was held over the weekend. WITIN explained that the event was aimed at helping girls to discover and build their abilities in creating apps and programming.
Mrs. Martha Omoekpe-Alade, Coordinator and President of WITIN, said that the programme would be extended to schools in other states of the country. She announced the kick-off dates of February 1 and 8, 2014 for Delta State and Abuja respectively.
