Your greatest asset is not any of the material things you’ve acquired; your greatest asset is you. That’s why it’s such a waste to try to live someone else’s life. And that’s why you need to invest the most in you this year.
There’s only one you. Nobody can do “you” like you can. When you let that sink in, you have to decide what you’re going to do with it.
We’re facing challenging times as a nation, and the best thing you can do is fortify yourself. It’s what you know that will make the difference. Are you willing to ditch fear and get the knowledge you need to go all out and be the best you? What steps will you take to increase your value so that you can keep exchanging it for more and more income? How can you recession-proof your life?
People who tell jokes and make people laugh for a living are amassing wealth and setting their children up for success; yet they used to be the ones everyone looked down on before comedy became lucrative. Someone took time to understand the business side of comedy, how to monetize it, and package it in such a way that people are willing to pay for it. They ran their ideas by knowledgeable people, got the help and connections they needed, and built an industry that continues to grow.
Delta State is rich in funny people, but it’s only those who got knowledge that others don’t have, that will stand out. They’ve learnt that talent is not enough, that they need to train themselves to see the “funny” in situations; that they need to find their own ways of getting fresh material; that they need to understand the essentials of personal branding. Investing in yourself comes down to knowledge. Never be ashamed of not knowing. Ask questions and gain knowledge that can never be taken away from you.
What makes you great at what you do? Why are you the best fit for your position? You have to constantly feed that. If the way you’ve been carrying on can no longer sustain you or take you where you want to go, what changes will you make? How can you tweak your personal brand, or completely re-invent your career or business, in order to not just remain in play, but to smash the game completely?
This isn’t a time for buying things you don’t need or trying to find yourself in possessions. It’s a time to get your hands on tried and tested strategies that will help you make progress, improve your lifestyle, and reposition yourself.
In 2017, purpose in your heart to say yes to yourself, and then get to work. If there are books you need to read, get them. Find out about seminars, courses and training programmes that will move you in the direction of your goals. If you need to change your associations, go right ahead and do just that. One reason I love good interviews is that you learn so much from accomplished people and that helps you grow.
Whatever you need to do to stay upgraded and on top of your game, find out and get on it.
