Who Celebrity Eep?

Ok, it is very stale news though, but there was a video of a Nigerian bride who went to her knees at the sight of Timi Dakolo going round on Social Media. Then fast-forward to the picture of Wizkid and Nicki Minaj trending on Twitter. Of course there were comments like, “who Wizkid, who Timi or Nicki epp?” Well, they have helped plenty. Think of any other celebrity and add them to the list. Yes, you read right. A celebrity can be defined as a state of being well known. Sounds mundane right, but it’s true. A lot of people are so interested in having a contact or relationship with their favourite celebrity, they form a self-attachment that may sometimes lead to stalking as they ‘famz’ their celeb on social media. Celebrities on social media when they endorse a product or services can help increase revenue as the audience feel a more personal connection to the stars they idolize. A lot of companies have keyed into this platform. Fans crave for this kind of relationship. When celebrities relate with other celebrities on the media, they help promote each other’s brands, which is being mutually and economically beneficial to one another. Celebrities can through their life style correct a social norm or pass positive messages. They can influence or shape public opinion whenever they use. The problem with celebrities and fans relationship is however that the fans, their audiences develop a need to belong mentality. Hence, you discover people who try to live over and above their financial means to be on par with their favourite celebrity. There is a false sense of intimacy developed with the interaction. So you have youths who claim they know more about a celebrity life and jump up to defend them or accuse them. I remember a scene when a young lady accused her favourite celebrity publicly of not being who she imagined her to be. While it was very easy to laugh at it, the young lady had probably built castles in the air about her mentor. Most people idol worship celebrities forgetting that they are human and are bound to make mistakes. The first thing you do when you see a celebrity crush is not to scream or rush to take selfies or the goodies shared. You could rather get to have engaging conversations with them, not about their life styles or popularity. They are not carved images, they also need human engagement. You can talk to them about a business idea not compulsory how you want them to help you, give them gifts to make them feel loved without wanting anything in return. Show appreciation for who they are, don’t be rude, however, don’t overdo. You may get yourself injured with all the fan crashing and paparazzi palaver. All in all, next time you hear who celeb help? Remember to answer in positive affirmations.
