When people hear Lagos, they seem to forget it is a state, not a town. In Lagos, there are different local government areas, and not just Lagos Mainland and Lagos Island. Today, we will focus on a part of Lagos called Ibeju-Lekki.
The name is drawn from two communities – Ibeju and Lekki. It is along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The communities in this region include: Lakowe, Eleko, Bogije, Ojuoto, Abijo, Orimedu, Awoyaya, Eputu, Sapati, Igando-Oloja, Arapagi, Oke-odo Elemoro, Akodo, and Magbon-Alade.

Ibeju-Lekki, also known as the ‘New Lagos’, is a local government area in Lagos State that is fast becoming a commercial and residential hub and a go-to place for tourism. Ibeju-Lekki is home to some lagoon islands, recreational spots and more.
Below are some tourist destinations to enjoy in Ibeju Lekki:
Omu Resort
Omu Resort is a one-stop fun zone for family and group outings. It has a zoo, go-kart, archery, quad biking, kayaking, paintball, and mini-golf arena. There is also the kiddies zone, an amusement park, the Wax Museum, and much more to engage in.

Awolowo Prison Museum
When Obafemi Awolowo was detained for conspiracy to overthrow the Nigerian government in 1962, this place was his prison. It was later turned into a museum containing items from his time. The compound also gives you a prison journey experience from the slave trade era through the underground prisons where slaves were held before being sold to the Point of No Return.
Lakowe Lake and Golf Course
Tucked away in Lakowe community is this imposing 308 hectare worth of land. It’s manmade lakes, lush green grass and palm grooves, spa, sporting and hospitality facilities make it a coveted spot to visit.
Eleko Beach
Here’s a beautiful landscape dotted with beach huts and great for horse riding. Its charm always a attracts a crowd so you are never alone. However, those who want privacy should visit on a weekday.
Eko Tourist Beach Resort
Just 5 minutes from the Lekki Free Trade Zone, this privately managed beach resort is like an oasis in the desert. Also known as Akodo Beach, it has a restaurant, amusement park, swimming pool, plus free WiFi and a game zone.
