As weird as it may sound, looking at your urine every time you go to the toilet is a great way to keep a check on your health and ensure nothing has gone wrong. From the colour to the texture of your urine, you can discover a lot of things about your health including the quality of your diet, your hydration level, and whether you’re in a good state of health or you need to see a doctor.Â

Orange Colour
Orange coloured urine can have a wide range of causes from minor to serious ones. Some medications such as anti-inflammatory drugs and chemotherapy treatments can cause your urine to turn orange. Another less serious cause is the over-consumption of vitamin C, carrots, beets, or any food that is orange. If none of these apply to you, then you could be dehydrated. Try drinking more water and see if the colour changes back to a normal one. If not, consult your doctor.Â
Pink and Reddish Urine
Again, this colour could be as a result of the foods you eat. Blueberries, blackberries, and rhubarb are some of the foods that can make urine look pink or reddish. Another reason could be the intake of certain antibiotics that are used to treat antibiotics. However, it could also mean there is blood in your urine which could be a result of vigorous exercise or infection. If the reddish colour does not disappear within 24 hours, go see a doctor.
Green or Blue Colour
While these colours seem like most unnatural colors for urine, they can actually appear due to the kinds of foods you eat. Consuming foods like asparagus or those that are artificially dyed can cause these colours to appear in your urine. Again, some medications can also cause these types of colours. However, if they cannot be traced to the foods or drugs you’ve taken, then they may be signs of something more serious and should see a doctor.Â

Brown ColourÂ
If your urine is brown, it may be a sign that you are severely dehydrated. This can also be caused by eating some brown-coloured foods such as fava beans. However, brown urine can also indicate problems with your liver or kidney. So, if you are drinking enough water and you’re not eating any foods that could affect the colour of your urine to this extent, make an appointment to see a doctor.Â
Foamy Urine
Urine gets foamy from time to time due to the speed of urination. However, when this foaminess keeps coming back and becomes a regular occurrence, you may want to see your doctor. Foamy urine can also indicate the presence of excess protein in it. This may be due to a serious kidney condition that can be treated and managed effectively if caught early. If your urine has developed a foamy texture that has lingered for long, you should consider making an appointment with the doctor.Â
