John Mikel Obi started Chelsea’s lunch time date with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. It was a fiery encounter which ended with Chelsea winning 4-2 winners. Chelsea opened the scoring via a beauty from defender, Gary Cahill; Juan Mata scored a brace before Daniel Sturridge rounded off the scoring. William Gallas and Jermaine Defoe scored for Spurs.
Victor Moses was named on the substitute bench but didn’t play a part in the encounter.
Osaze Odemwigie came off the bench in West Brom’s 2-1 loss at home to champions, Manchester City. The Baggies looked destined for the win after they took the lead from Shane Long in the second half but two late goals from substitute Edin Dzeko handed Steve Clarke’s men their first loss at home.
Shola Ameobi started the North East derby between Newcastle United and Sunderland at The Stadium of Light on Sunday. His side took the lead in the 3rd minute through Yohan Cabaye before they were reduced to 10 men after Ivorian, Cheik Tiote, was given his marching orders for a cynical foul on Steve Fletcher. Ameobi was angry with the decision and was booked as a result, he made way for James Perch as Alan Pardew tried to keep his team in the game. The match ended 1-all after Demba Ba headed the ball into his own net.
Victor Anichebe started Everton’s game against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. Nedum Onuoha was named on the substitutes’ bench. The match ended 1-all courtesy of goals from Canadian striker, Junior Holliett before a rare Julio Cesar own goal handed Everton a draw.
Carlton Uzoma Cole’s West Ham United demolished Southampton 4-1. Mark Noble (2), Kevin Nolan and Modibo Maiga were amongst the goals. Adam Llana scored a consolation goal for Southampton.
