STOKE CITY 0-4 CHELSEA
Chelsea travelled to the Britannia stadium to take on a Stoke City team who are yet to lose at home this season. The Nigerian pair, Victor Moses and John Mikel Obi were absent in Chelsea squad after they joined up with the rest of Nigeria’s AFCON squad in Faro, Portugal last week. Chelsea started the game poorly but were awarded a way back into the game by Jonathan Walters, who had a game to forget, scoring twice at his own end before Frank Lampard scored one from the spot, placing him second on list of Chelsea’s all time highest goal scorers with 194 goals. Eden Hazard scored the goal of the game from 25 yards out. Walters’ misery was compounded when he missed a 90
th minute penalty after he was hurled down by returning Chelsea captain, John Terry.
READING 3-2 WEST BROM
West Brom’s coach, Steve Clarke omitted Nigerian controversial striker, Peter Osaze Odemwigie from the squad that took on Reading at the Madjeski stadium. Osaze is rumoured to be on the verge of a transfer to Premier League rock bottom team, Queens Park Rangers this January. Chelsea’s on-loan striker, Romelu Lukaku scored a brace before Reading launched a comeback through Kebe, le Fondre and Pogrebnyak. Hope Akpan was an unused sub for Reaading.
QPR 0-0 TOTTENHAM
Nedum Onuoha started on the right side of QPR’s four-man defence against Tottenham on Saturday. The game was a dour one with QPR’s keeper, Julio Cesar and his defence line frustrated Spurs throughout the game.
SUNDERLAND 3-0 WEST HAM
Carlton Cole started yet another game for Sam Allardyce’s side before he was replaced by on-loan Moroccan striker, Marouane Chamakh in the 56
th minute. Sunderland’s Benin midfielder, Stephane Sessegnon was the star of the game, setting up goals for Adam Johnson and James McClean.
EVERTON 0-0 SWANSEA CITY
Victor Anichebe started in attack alongside Nicka Jelavic against Swansea on Saturday. The Nigerian international gave good account of him and was replaced by Greek U-21 striker, Apostolios Velios in the 83
rd minute.
NORWICH CITY 0-0 NEWCASTLE
Shola Ameobi sat out Newcastle’s stalemate with Norwich City at the Carrow Road on Saturday. His brother, Sammy didn’t make the team list.
