EPL CHELSEA 2-1 ASTON VILLA Chelsea’s game was shifted back to Monday 19th, August because of its Euro Super Cup date with Bayern Munich in Prague on 30th, August. The game saw John Mikel Obi’s first appearance on Chelsea’s match-day squad but he didn’t come off the bench as his team ran out 2-1 winners with Branislav Ivanovic scoring at the death to hand the Blues the maximum points. NEWCASTLE UNITED 0-0 WEST HAM Ameobi brothers – Shola and Sammy were both involved in this goalless draw. The former started the game while the latter was thrown in midway into the second half for Sylvain Marveaux. Both couldn’t break the deadlock in their first home game of the season. HULL 1-0 NORWICH CITY Sonie Aluko started the game brightly for the hosts before his team mate, Yannick Sagbo of Ivory Coast was sent off just before halftime. The Ivorian had earlier got a penalty that was converted by Irish winger, Robert Brady before a rush of blood to the head saw him head butt Norwich defender Russell Martin in an off the ball challenge. Hull City Tigers hung on for the win. EVERTON 0-0 WEST BROM Nigerian duo, Victor Anichebe of Everton and Osaze Odemwingie of West Brom played no part when Everton entertained West Brom at the Goodison Park in Liverpool. Anichebe made the bench for the hosts but Osaze appears to be on his way out of the club. He hasn’t been forgiven by the Baggies management for his unprofessional behaviour last year. The striker drove to QPR’s stadium on last day of January transfer window in a bid to force a move to the Londoners. The dour game finished in a stalemate. Other English Premier League results are as follows: Fulham 1-3 Arsenal Southampton 1-1 Sunderland Stoke City 2-1 Crystal Palace Aston Villa 0-1 Liverpool Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Swansea City Cardiff City 3-2 Manchester City
