In the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Rivers United returned to the top of the table after a 1-0 win over Enugu Rangers at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Nyima Nwagua netted the winner for the Stanley Eguma side in the 31st minute of the game. League champions, Akwa United, beat Dakkada 3-2 in the Uyo derby on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. Dakkada took the lead in the 17th minute of the encounter through a strike from Femi Ajayi before Samuel Amadi equalized in the 30th minute. Akwa would make it 2-1 in the 51st minute via a fine finish from Wisdom Fernando before Ezekiel Bassey made it 3-1 with just 15 minutes left to play. Dakkada reduced the deficit through a Rivio Ayemwenre 79th minute strike, but it was not enough to see off Akwa.
