2018 NBA Africa Game: Team World Edge Team Africa 96-92
Team World edged Team Africa 96-92 at the 2018 NBA Africa Game on Saturday at Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria, South Africa.
The 2018 NBA Africa Game was played in support of national hero, Nelson Mandela’s foundation as part of the 2018 Basketball Without Borders Africa camp jamboree.
Nigeria was not left unrepresented as Al Farouq Aminu of Portland Trail Blazers was in action for Team Africa. The win takes Team World to 3-0 since the first NBA Africa Game in 2015.
Asaba 2018: Team Nigeria Finish In Third Position
Team Nigeria and hosts of the 21st African Senior Athletics Championships finished third overall after a thrilling 3-day performance. The finale saw the Nigerians win three Gold, one Silver and one Bronze medals, closing the championships on an impressive note.
Relay queens, Patience Okon-George, Abike Egbeniyi, Folashade Abugan and Yinka Ajayi came first in the Women’s 4×400m relay final with a time of 3:33.17s. Nathaniel Glory and Grace Anigbataalso won Gold for Team Nigeria in the Women’s 400m Hurdles final and Women’s Triple final respectively.
Divine Oduduru, however, came second in the Men’s 200m final while the Men’s 4×400m relay team came third.
At the end of the competition, Nigeria came in third with a total of nine Gold, five Silver and five Bronze medals in her possession. The ASAC 2018 winner, Kenya hauled a total of eleven Gold, six Silver and two Bronze medals. South Africa in second position had nine Gold, thirteen Silver and eight bronze medals.
Quadri Aruna Now 18th Best In The World
Nigeria’s foremost table tennis player Quadri Aruna has moved up two positions in the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) ranking released for the month of August.
Aruna was formerly in 20th position and the first Nigerian to attain that height. Nonetheless, the player just took it a step further as he remains the only Nigerian and second African to make the World’s top 18 players list.
Aruna’s African counterpart and longtime rival, Omar Assar dropped two positions, from 21 to 23 and will not be making an appearance at the 2018 ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open.
