Nigeria are now in second position in Group E with six points, one point behind group leader, South Africa, who defeated Seychelles 6-0 in the other group’s fixtures last week.

A hat-trick special by Odion Ighalo, and a neat finish by Samuel Kalu put the Super Eagles four goals up as they prepare for the return leg of their encounter against Libya in Sfax on Tuesday, 16th October 2018.

Four minutes into the game, Ighalo was fouled by the Libyan goalkeeper and was given a penalty chance to redeem himself to Nigerians — after his lackluster performance for the Eagles at the 2018 Russia FIFA World Cup.

Ighalo made good use of the opportunity and put Nigeria one goal up, just within four minutes of the game. Libya would go on to try every chip in their bag to equalize, however, the Super Eagles clearly came to the game to win and they were ready for anything the Mediterranean Knights had planned.

There were many unsuccessful attempts at goal from both sides throughout the remaining minutes of the first half. Libya started off the second half on their best foot, but, tripped in the 57th minute after Ighalo dribbled past the Libyan goalie to score Nigeria’s second goal of the game, assisted by Alex Iwobi.

In the 68th minute, Ighalo was absolved of all the Russia 2018 guilt, when he got his hat-trick — after he cooly slotted home a pass from Ahmed Musa.

Kalu scored Nigeria’s fourth goal on the stroke of 90 minutes with a great shot from outside the box, to give Nigeria a 4-0 win against the former Group E leader.
