However, things would turn sour for the Ladan Bosso boys after Nwaeze was booked for the second time and sent off, leaving the Nigerians with 10 men against 11. The Ivoirians will seize the opportunity and pile on the pressure on the Flying Eagles until they got the equalizer late in the 90th minute, thanks to Nwaeze, Peter Olawale, and Ubani, who were all wasteful in front of goal.

A win over the Black Satellites of Ghana in what would be Nigeria’s final Group B game on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, would seal the Flying Eagles a spot in the next round. The tournament which commenced on Saturday, December 5, saw hosts, Benin Republic, fall to a 1-0 defeat by Niger in a tightly contested game while Burkina Faso and Togo had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
