Prior to winning an Apple iPad at a raffle during the 2013 Connect Nigeria e-Business Fair, Hosanna Oluwatosin Akinbohun had never won a prize in a lottery pick. Akinbohun was ecstatic when his name was announced as the winner of the first prize in the draw, but he was not the only winner at the event. Two other visitors won prizes for the second and third categories and were rewarded with an Hewlett Packard printer and a Portable Sony Playstation respectively. Akinbohun remarked when asked about how he felt on his win, “Me, an iPad? I never thought it would happen!”

According to him, he merely bought the ticket that qualified him to participate in the contest without being mindful of the possibility of winning. The ticket vendor kept pushing the sale to him before he gave in; after all, it was only a token, he figured. His attendance at the fair, he explained, was influenced by his knowledge through a social media news outfit that detailed the benefits to business start-ups. He attended with the aim of learning some tips on how to maximize electronic technology in business operations, but the immediate gain at the event was what excited him most on that day. “I can’t wait to tell my mother,” he said.
