Yesterday, veteran Nollywood actress, Bukky Ajayi was laid to rest at the Atan Cemetary, Yaba, Lagos. Mama Bukky Ajayi died at the age of 82.
After studying as a federal government scholar at the Stanislavsky Institute of Drama, London, she came back to Nigeria and took up the position of a presentation assistant in 1966 with Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). She later became a presenter, where she presented a couple of children’s programmes and the TV programme, Nigerian’s Sketches, that was centred on the Nigerian culture.
She was renowned for her career which lasted for over three decades, some of which include her roles in hit soap The Village Headmaster, in which she first featured in the 70s, and in Checkmate, Diamond Ring and Witches, amongst many others.
She was honoured by the Africa Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) in March for her contribution to the development of Nigeria’s movie industry.
