THE INFLUX OF VENITIAN BLINDS TO NIGERIAN HOME INTERIORS Prior to now, an average Nigerian believed venetian blinds were meant for basically offices or places of business. But thanks to good interior decorating outfits in the likes of Kairos Timeless Style amongst others, using venetian blinds in the stead of curtains and fabric blinds…….the embrace of the trend is becoming wider and more accepted by the day. Venetian blinds are a type of window covering, nearly always found on the inside of the window or over windows as the case may be in Nigeria as our metal burglary proofs doesn’t allow for it to be placed on the insides of the window. They serve the purpose of blocking out external light (hence the name blind), as well as hiding the inside of the structure from exterior viewing. Venetian blinds are slatted blinds, consisting of a number of long horizontal strips attached in rows. In the modern world Venetian blinds are nearly always made of metal or vinyl — wooden varieties exist, but these are now referred to as wooden blinds. The slats are usually connected with string such that they may be turned to either allow light to pass through them by becoming parallel with the window-sill, or else turned flat to block light from the outside. Usually the turning of the slats is accomplished by rotating a metal or plastic piece found at the upper-corner of the blinds or by the pulling of a string. A string or pull allows the blinds to be raised, as well, removing them entirely from obscuring the window   ADVANTAGES OF VENETIAN BLINDS OVER FABRIC BLINDS/CURTAINS Nigeria is hot in nature, Venetian blinds allow for easy ventilation when tilted open, yet still acts as complete coverings for windows……as against fabrics that most often a time are too thick….or have to be raised completely to the side for air thus creating a clumsy and disorganized look. Venetian blinds give rooms a very high contemporary modern outlook, especially when its fixed with matching colors of a room’s furniture. It’s easier to clean venetian blinds, you just wipe with a soft cloth or duster every now and then as against the troubles of bringing down curtains and having them laundered , washed and pressed then having to hang them back up again. Venetian blinds comes in various types, the most common are the metallic venetian, the plastic venetian, and the wooden blinds. The wooden are the most durable, as the plastic or metallic blinds tends to bend at the ends in a short while. The wooden blinds are of various shades to suit different tastes….there is the mahogany finish, walnut finish, natural wood finish, pure white, black, cherry finish, oak wood finish…..etc.
