As part of dedication and devotion towards ensuring that people around the globe are aware of the aims and achievements of the United Nations, as well as gaining global support for its work, the United Nations General Assembly in 1947, declared October 24 as United Nations Day. The UN General Assembly would go on in 1971 to adopt a resolution 2782, which made the UN Day an international observance or international holiday, with a recommendation to member states of the United Nations to declare October 24 of every year as a public holiday.
