Union Bank is partnering with Connect Nigeria to launch the Top 100 Emerging SMEs, a project which seeks to recognize and celebrate the best of Nigeria’s small and medium scale businesses. Through diligent and rigorous research, organizers of the Top 100 Emerging SMEs aim to present the most authentic list of top 100 businesses from different industries with a theme-guided focus on startup and growing businesses. The ultimate goal of this project is to bring to the fore the immense achievements of pioneering businesses and project the stories of outstanding players in Nigeria’s dynamic SME space to the world. The top 100 Emerging SMEs form part of Connect Nigeria’s efforts to further the growth cause of SMEs and startups in the country ably supported by Union Bank (to mark its 100th year of operation in Nigeria.) Businesses to be recognized will be drawn from several sectors, including education, transportation and logistics, food and retail services, tech startups, fashion and style, media and entertainment, health, retail (online and offline), agriculture, and alternative energy. Exceptional female CEOs and entrepreneurs below 35 years will also be recognized. In order to be selected, nominees must satisfy the panel’s criteria in areas of innovation, business feasibility, and scalability, reach, leadership, product quality and impact on their industry’s eco-space. Only businesses registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and possessing or presenting evidence of revenue, taxation and other relevant documents will be considered. The definitive list of Top 100 Emerging SMEs in Nigeria will be announced/published at the end of the campaign. Through this initiative, businesses that make the list will be the ultimate beneficiaries mainly from the resultant exposure and buzz. In line with its objectives, the organizers also anticipate that the entire exercise will stimulate interest in this sector of our economy and the role of SMEs in job and wealth creation in Nigeria’s IGR.
