The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth Initiative has launched recruitment for its 2026 Local Pathways Fellowship cohort. This international program prepares emerging leaders with essential capabilities, expertise, and opportunities to promote Sustainable Development Goal 11, which focuses on creating sustainable cities and communities.

This Fellowship empowers young professionals in urban planning, activism, and innovation who are driving urban transformation. Throughout the 10-month duration, participants will examine critical urban challenges, work alongside international peers, and develop a project tackling a significant issue within their local community.

Responsibilities and Activities

Participants engage in monthly sessions centred on education, project creation, and international cooperation. The curriculum encompasses exploring significant urban concerns, converting knowledge into a community-based SDG 11 initiative, building connections within a worldwide network of over 750 fellows representing 180 cities in 80 countries, and gaining expertise through the LPF’s specialised webinar series with expert mentors.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must satisfy these conditions:

  • Show genuine commitment to sustainable development and alignment with SDSN and SDSN Youth’s objectives.
  • Possess expertise or background in areas including urban planning, sustainability, urban technology, community mobilisation, advocacy, or development work.
  • Hold a minimum of one year’s academic or professional background in relevant disciplines.
  • Display strong capabilities in organisation, leadership, and communication.
  • Be dependable and capable of collaborating with international teams across various time zones.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English and the primary language of their represented city.
  • Be available to dedicate the necessary time and ensure reliable internet access.
  • Fall within the age range of 18 to 30 years.

Timeline

The program spans 10 months, requiring weekly participation of 4 to 6 hours.

Terms

This voluntary position includes an initial 2-month probationary phase.

Participants must fulfil all required SDSN Youth orientation and training programs and report to the Local Pathways Fellowship Program management team.
