Social media and the streets of Lagos were agog to see the lineup of the UEFA Championships League Quarter Final games play out, from the day the fixtures were announced. The Champions League comes with a special kind of rave, only second to the FIFA World Cup.

The knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League are the most fun to watch, due to the level of commitment and enthusiasm displayed by fans of the teams that make it into this round.

On April 10th, the quarterfinal round of the UEFA CL kicked off and Nigerians were not left behind in the excitement, as the 8 qualified teams battled it both home and away.

Results

Tottenham 1:0 Manchester City (Agg 1: 0)

Son Heung-min inspired Tottenham to a 1 goal win against the almighty Man City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in north London.

Now Tottenham will travel to City of Manchester stadium on April 17, for the return leg of the fixture.

Liverpool 2:0 Porto (Agg. 2:0)

As expected, Liverpool defeated Porto at the Anfield stadium. Goals from Naby Keita (5’) and Roberto Firminho (26’), helped The Reds take one step into the next round.

Liverpool will travel to Estádio do Dragão in Portugal on April 17, for the second leg of the fixture.

Ajax 1:1 Juventus (Agg. 1:1)

In a very unexpected turn of events, Ajax held Juventus to a 1-1 draw at the Amsterdam Arena.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first goal of the encounter at the stroke of halftime with a brilliant header. However, one minute into the restart, David Neres leveled the scoreline for Ajax with a clever stunner.

Ajax will now make a trip to Italy on April 16, for the second leg of their quarter-final tie.

Manchester United 0:1 Barcelona FC (Agg. 0:1)

This game was probably the most watched match of the quarter-final first leg series.

The win margin was predicted to be much larger in favor of Barcelona, however, Manchester United managed to hold their own against the ruthless Lionel Messi at Old Trafford.

All their prayers paid off.

Barcelona took the lead in the blistering encounter via an own goal by Luke Shaw in the 12th minute.

Messi laid out a beautiful pass for Suarez who headed home aided by Shaw.

The Red Devils will now make a trip to Camp Nou on April 16, for the reverse leg of the encounter.
