The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, has announced it performed seven open heart surgeries between October 2013 and January 2014.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Professor Temitope Alonge, told the media yesterday that the hospital reached a new milestone with the number of open heart surgeries performed within such time-frame. He added that the latest surgery performed at the hospital was its first ever Coronary Artery Bye-Pass Grafting (CABG), on Tuesday.
Professor Alonge explained that the cost of having such surgeries performed abroad usually cost around N4 million, whereas the cost of the same operation at UCH is about N1.5 million.
