  The Super Eagles of Nigeria ended their October friendlies with a 1-1 draw against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia at the Jacques Lemans Arena, Austria, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Leicester City of England star, Kelechi Iheanacho, put the Eagles ahead in the 21st minute of the encounter before missing a penalty in the half-hour mark after the captain, Ahmed Musa, was brought down by the Tunisian goalkeeper in the box. The Tunisians would go on to equalize in the 44th minute through Mohamed Drajer strike.

Gernot Rohr’s charges dominated possession throughout the game but the North Africans put up strong defences to see that the game ended in a stalemate. With Tuesday’s result, Nigeria finished the October international break with a loss against Algeria, and draw against Tunisia, results that the team’s coach, Gernot Rohr, felt would have been better but is excited with the fact that the team put up a good fight despite the absence of some key players in the team, citing selection headache in November’s AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone.

‘It was a very good feeling to be together again after being away for 11 months, although we missed some key players. The two friendly games we played were very good competitive games. Algeria and Tunisia are very good teams. Indeed, the results could have been better. We could have picked a draw against Algeria and a win against Tunisia. We have some positives to pick out from the games because in spite of missing some key players we still competed well. Now it is going to be difficult for me to pick our list for the AFCON qualifiers next month because of the new boys who did well.’ Gernot Rohr
