Nigeria has a growing number of parks. Though the most popular ones are the nature conservation parks such as IITA forest reserve, Lekki Conservation Centre, Jos Wildlife Park, amongst others. We recommend adding a visit to the parks we have in Nigeria is a must for every Nigerian traveller’s bucket list. But when packing for your trip to any of the above parks, you need to dress appropriately. We all know Nigeria is big on modesty, but what we are after is functionality. You can dress modestly and it can be functional for the purpose for which you wore it. Dressing for a visit to different parks in Nigeria, here is a list of clothing items we believe work best.
  • Water Parks – When visiting a water park like Park Vega in Agbor or Funtopia water park in Ibeju Lekki, you are signing an invisible contract to get drenched. So it is best to wear beach outfits. Light dresses or cover-ups on swimsuits, sun hat and sunshades for the ladies, shorts and short sleeve t-shirts for the guys. Long skirts with a tank top or chiffon handless or short sleeve blouses on jeggings/denim shorts also work.

  • Amusement Parks – Where are all the adrenaline junkies? This is your zone. When visiting a place like Omu resort Amusement Park in Ibeju Lekki or Hi-Impact Planet Amusement Park in Ibafo, we will recommend wearing full-length trousers and body-hugging tops with sandals for the ladies. The guys can wear knee-length shorts to trousers and t-shorts or long sleeve shirts.
  • National Park – These are nature conservation parks that give you the feel of the world before civilization. Some of these have waterfalls and warm springs like Cross River National Park and Yankari National Park. So if you are visiting in the dry season, it is best to carry long pants, short/knee length Khaki shorts or skirts, short sleeve shirts, light tops, sandals, sunglasses. If you are going in the rainy season, your dry season outfits will still work because the temperature despite the rains is still high. You just need to add a poncho or raincoat, waterproof shoes.
  • City Park – We usually see these parks within urban cities. We called them town squares in the olden days. It is usually a fenced portion within a city where nature may thrive with a seating area and monument or statue. It sometimes has a play area for kids. An example of a city park is Freedom Park in Lagos and Millennium Park in Abuja. Here you can wear normal everyday clothes. It requires no special dressing.
